The future of the Citizens' Network Benchmarking Initiative
During the annual conference Juan Moreno Acedo from the European Commission,
DG Energy and Transport, announced the European Commission's plans on the future
of the Citizens' Network Benchmarking Initiative. Though no exact timeframe has
been formally set, the Commission plans to launch the next step of the project
in the second half of 2002. It is foreseen to enlarge the number of
participating cities and regions and widen the topics for
benchmarking.

The first annual conference of the Citizens’ Network Benchmarking Initiative
took place in Brussels on 25 February 2002. The event presented the
results of the activities undertaken in the first year of the benchmarking
exercise and encouraged other cities and regions to participate.
